Local distribution companies encounter an array of challenges during what seems like a very normal job. Ideally, a technician must understand his immediate surrounding environment, the condition of the line he’s isolating, the operating condition of the equipment and what’s going on upstream and downstream of the job site.
This is sometimes easier said than done. In many cases, line conditions are not 100% clear. Wall thicknesses may be unknown, flow and pressure may fluctuate and the condition of the inside of the pipe may be substandard. All of these issues make it very challenging to achieve a safe isolation operation every time.
