Atlantic Coast pipeline pursues eminent domain in Virginia

The Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) has filed two eminent-domain lawsuits in Nelson County, Virginia, against landowners that are in the way of a planned pipeline.
ACP LLC officials filed the lawsuit on Friday against Nelson County’s Wintergreen Property Owners Association following an inability to reach a compensation agreement.
FERC has granted the company the power of eminent domain.
ACP also sued one Nelson County family, seeking easements. The company has filed lawsuits against around 100 landowners along the pipeline’s route.
Virginia laws allow the eminent domain appeal in cases of construction, but the ACP has signed agreements with about 80% of landowners on its route. Now, the ACP has filed eminent-domain lawsuits against about 100 landowners that still haven't signed easement agreements.
