Hilary Clinton, the presidential candidate for the Democratic party, has said that the Obama administration’s decision regarding the Keystone XL pipeline is overdue, stating: “I'm going to tell you what I think soon, because I can't wait.”

A majority of US voters of all political persuasions agreed that the years of Keystone XL pipeline delay have hurt our energy security and economy, according to a new poll conducted for API by Harris Poll.

Hillary Clinton broke her silence over the construction of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, stating that she opposes the controversial project.

She stated: “I think it is a distraction from important work we have to do on climate change … Therefore I oppose it.”

US President Barack Obama rejected the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline project.

"The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy," Obama told a press conference on Friday.

Environmental groups have used the project to great effect as a symbol to raise the profile of climate change as a political issue.

API President and CEO Jack Gerard said Hillary Clinton’s anti-Keystone XL pipeline position demonstrates an unwillingness to follow the will of American voters who strongly support the project.

“Hillary Clinton’s decision to oppose Keystone is a missed opportunity to seize the true potential of our energy renaissance. How can the administration advocate a deal that would help Iranian oil producers but not do the same for US and Canadian producers? This is not how you harness America’s economic and diplomatic potential.”
