Industry response after KXL Senate vote fails

EVRAZ expressed disappointment that while Senate votes favoured proceeding with the long-awaited construction of the Keystone XL pipeline by 59 to 41, the bill was one vote short of being approved and advancing to the White House.

"We are disappointed that the path to job creation and increased energy independence has been put on hold; however, we are encouraged by growing support for pipeline completion and are confident that the bill will be reintroduced and succeed early next year,” said Conrad Winkler, President and CEO of EVRAZ North America. “In the interim, we urge President Obama to respond to the increased support by acting now to approve the Keystone XL application.”

Winkler added, “The pipeline will safely provide the oil our country needs from our own shale areas in North Dakota and Montana and from our trusted trade partner Canada. It will allow our citizens to benefit from the thousands of jobs the pipeline project will create.”

American Jewish Committee (AJC)

AJC is urging the Obama Administration to expedite the Keystone XL Pipeline review process and approve the project, following the Senate's failure to pass a bill that would have compelled its construction.

AJC has long advocated for the pipeline and supported the bill that was defeated by one vote. "The Keystone XL pipeline is critically important for US energy security, our economy and relations with Canada, our neighbour and ally," said Richard Foltin, AJC's Director of National and Legislative Affairs.
