Tulsa-based pipeline and processing firm Williams Cos. Inc. has put its Rockaway Delivery Lateral and Northeast Connector projects into service. The lines are increasing natural gas delivery to Brooklyn and Queens.

The Rockaway lateral has a daily capacity of 647 000 dekatherms, adding 3.2 miles of new Transco pipeline and facilities in New York connecting to the National Grid System which has 1.8 million customers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island. Transco is Williams' interstate pipeline system covering thousands of miles from the Texas Gulf Coast to the eastern US.

"As we learned during Superstorm Sandy – and were harshly reminded during these past two record setting cold winters – a reliable and resilient supply of energy is critical to the local New York and Long Island communities we serve,” said National Grid New York President Ken Daly.

“This new pipeline builds upon our commitment to support the Rockaway communities, as we did in the aftermath of Sandy by awarding economic development grants to thousands of customers and local businesses, as well as rebuilding the entire Breezy Point gas network.”

Williams and its master limited partnership, Williams Partners LP, comprise one of the nation's largest midstream natural gas firms. Earlier this month, Williams announced it is buying the outstanding shares of the MLP and folding it into the parent company.
