Enbridge plans upgrade to Ozark Pipeline

Canadian energy company Enbridge Inc. is planning a Cdn$23 million upgrade to 4000 ft of its Ozark Pipeline running under the Mississippi in north St. Louis city.
The Ozark Pipeline carries oil from Oklahoma through Missouri on its way to the Wood River refinery in Illinois. The 435 mile pipeline can carry up to 215 000 bpd of oil, according to Enbridge.
Workers will bore under the river from Illinois to Missouri, weld pipe together on the Missouri side, and then pull the pipe through the new tunnel. The project is slated to begin this week and be finished in 2016.
"These pipelines boost North American energy independence and create jobs, and that’s why we have been proud to partner with Enbridge to ensure they are built safely, responsibly and with highly-skilled workers who know how to get the job done right,” Governor Nixon said.
“This project represents another example of how Missouri is leading the way toward greater North American energy independence from right here in the heartland.”
