FERC issues Energy Infrastructure Update for September 2014

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has released its Energy Infrastructure Update for September 2014. The report notes that six natural gas pipeline projects (total length: 1413.8 miles; total capacity: 7.096 billion ft3/d) were proposed in September 2014, while two were certificated (total length: 9.3 miles; total capacity 960 million ft3/d) and three were placed in service (total length: 18.5 miles; total capacity: 101.2 million ft3/d).

Natural gas highlights

  • Eastern Shore received authorisation to place into service its White Oak Lateral Project which will provide 55.2 million ft3/d of capacity to serve Calpine Energy’s proposed 309 MW power plant in Dover, DL.
  • Dominion Cove Point received authorisation to construct and operate an LNG export terminal (825 million ft3/d) at Cove Point’s existing import terminal in Calvert County, MD, and pipeline facilities to provide 860 million ft3/d of capacity on Cove Point’s existing pipeline to serve the proposed terminal.
  • Florida Southeast requested authorisation to construct and operate its Florida Southeast Connection Project. This project will provide 640 million ft3/d of capacity from the proposed Sabil Trail pipeline near Intercession City, FL, to a delivery point with Florida Power & Light near Indiantown, FL.
  • Tennessee commenced the Commission’s pre-filing process to construct and operate its Northeast Energy Direct Project, which will provide 2.2 billion ft3/d of capacity from Tennessee’s system in PA, to markets in New England.
  • ExxonMobil Alaska, ConocoPhillips Alaska, BP Alaska, TransCanada Alaska, and Alaska Gasline commenced the Commission’s pre-filing process to construct and operate an LNG export terminal (2.55 billion ft3/d) near Nikiski, AK, andpipeline facilities to provide 3.5 million ft3/d of capacity from the Alaska North Slope to the proposed terminal.
