World Pipelines,
The Israeli government is evaluating a plan put forth by Qatar to build a pipeline that would supply natural gas from Israel to the Gaza Strip.
The proposed plan would allow Israel to supply natural gas directly to Gaza's power plant, alleviating the current energy shortage in the area. The power plant is currently only able to produce eight hours worth of electricity daily.
Additionally, only 28 percent of the electricity used by the Gazan population is produced in Gaza. The remainder is supplied by Israel and Egypt.
According to the proposal, the cost of the gas would be paid by the Palestinian Authority, and the cost of implementing the project would be divided between Qatar and private funds managed by the Palestinian Authority.
The plan was proposed by Muhammad al-Ahmadi, head of Qatar’s committee for rehabilitating Gaza.
