Commissioning of Balticconnector pipeline celebrated

Today, on 11 December 2019, the commissioning of the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia is being celebrated. The Commissioning Celebration takes place in Helsinki, Finland and Paldiski, Estonia simultaneously, connected with a live stream.
Guests of honour and speakers at the event are the President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, the President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, Minister for Economic Affairs in Finland Mika Lintilä, Minister for Economic Affairs and Infrastructure in Estonia Taavi Aas and Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Deputy Director General form European Commission Energy Directorate.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the Balticconnector gas pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.

When the tanks are full, the liquefied carbon dioxide will be loaded onto a dedicated carrier from Royal Wagenborg and shipped to the INEOS Nini platform in the Danish North Sea. From there, it will be safely injected via pipeline into subsurface reservoirs approximately 1800 m beneath the seabed for permanent storage.
