Central Asia-China pipeline delayed again

Published by , Editor
World Pipelines,

Line D, the fourth strand of the Central Asia-China natural gas pipeline expansion project, has been postponed due to low demand for the fuel from Beijing.

Line D is set to be 1000 km and will run from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, before terminating in western China.

At present, the three additional strands of the pipeline export approximately 55 billion m3/y of natural gas. When completed, Line D will increase the pipeline’s capacity to 85 billion m3/y.

It has been reported that Line 4’s most recent delay was agreed by Chinese and Uzbekistan parties. Additionally, no official date had been decided on for the resumption of operations.

Additionally, according to a RIA Novosti report, the state investment programme has provided no allocated spending budged to the project for 2017, citing “unfinished work in preparation” and “operations at the joint venture” as reasons.
