Mozambique’s new loop line

SASOL have discussed investing US$210 million in a second loop line of Mozambique’s existing pipeline. The intentions are to increase the capacity of the line from the Temane field to energy hubs in Mozambique and South Africa.
Opportunities
With over 277 trillion ft3 of onshore and offshore natural gas, Mozambique is able to develop its own – and neighbouring countries’ – gas markets. This will only increase the amount of opportunities once the new loop line begins operation.
The second loop line
The Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investment Company (ROMPCO) – 50% owned by SASOL – stated on 30 November that the new line will offer an increase of natural gas being transported to Mozambique and South Africa, from 188 million gigajoules (GJ) per year to 212 million GJ/y.
The two lines
The existing pipeline runs 865 km from the Temane processing facility to Secunda. The second loop will be 128 km (79 miles) and primarily serve South African markets, before eventually serving Mozambican customers too. The additional line will thus reflect the growing demand of natural gas in both Mozambique and South Africa. It is set to be built by 2017.
