New remote monitoring technology helps to prevent induced AC corrosion

World Pipelines,

American Innovations (AI) has announced its new Bullhorn RM4210 remote monitoring unit for AC and DC coupons. AI, a company that protects people and the environment with compliance solutions for the oil and gas industry, has designed the RM4210 to assist operators in identifying areas where AC may be a source of corrosion, ensuring that AC mitigation systems are working correctly, and knowing when AC current density conditions change so that mitigation systems can be adjusted quickly and correctly.

As more pipelines are being located alongside high voltage power lines, the potential for induced AC corrosion is increasing. The RM4210 can help operators mitigate this risk by measuring AC and DC coupon current density, AC and DC pipe to soil, native pipe to soil, instant off, and PCR AC current. These measurements are automatically uploaded via satellite communication to Bullhorn Web, a web based asset manager, that operators can use to monitor and adjust their AC mitigation systems.

The software’s extract feature allows data from the RM4210 to be imported into PCSTM compliance management software. It also generates detailed reports that make it easy to identify problem areas, see current density trends, and prove that the mitigation systems are working efficiently.

Other benefits of the RM4210 include:

  • Form factor: The RM4210 is a fully integrated unit that can be easily mounted on top of a coupon test station.
  • Ease of installation and setup: Normal field installations take just a few minutes, and detailed configuration can be applied from the comfort of the office using the Bullhorn Web.
  • Accurate: The RM4210 measures AC and DC voltage with 1% of reading accuracy all the way through the range with auto calibration and auto-zero for every measurement.
  • Integrated with the TRITON® Coupon Test Station: Coupling the RM4210 with the award winning TRITON coupon test station ensures unparalleled usability, durability, and ease of installation.
