SPE Aberdeen celebrates its 40th anniversary

World Pipelines,

2014 is a very special year for SPE Aberdeen as it reaches its landmark 40th anniversary. Having arrived shortly before the first drop of oil was extracted from the North Sea, SPE Aberdeen hopes to be here when the last drop of oil comes out of it.

SPE is a unique oil and gas industry membership organisation, not just because of its niche audience but also because of its relevance to the wider community. It supports local schools and universities, educational and knowledge-sharing scientific activities, whilst running on a not-for-profit basis.

The Aberdeen Section has developed alongside the oil and gas sector in Scotland, having over 2,500 members and a drive to enhance its members' industry exposure, helping them achieve their true potential in terms of professional development and technical expertise. It’s a continuing success story, which mirrors that of the North Sea journey.

SPE Aberdeen chairman, Anthony Onukwu said, “This is a momentous year for SPE Aberdeen. Our 40th anniversary is an ideal juncture for us to reflect on the successes of SPE Aberdeen and the North Sea oil and gas industry over the past 40 years, ensuring that the generations to come will build upon the legacy left to them by all of us, those who are highly passionate about the upstream oil and gas industry.”

To mark its 40th anniversary and acknowledge the continuous efforts made by its members across the years in enhancing the ethos of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE Aberdeen will celebrate with a black-tie dinner on Thursday, 7 August. SPE Aberdeen will welcome an impressive line-up of key industry speakers from Statoil, BP, Shell, Taqa, Schlumberger and the Press and Journal - as well as numerous international guests.

The evening will showcase the oil and gas industry’s journey over the past 40 years and the impact SPE Aberdeen Section has had upon the local industry and the wider Scottish community.

SPE Aberdeen expects 200 guests to attend on the night at Aberdeen’s Chester Hotel.
