Armacell relaunches its ArmWin technical calculation program

World Pipelines,
After further developing its ArmWin technical calculation program, Armacell has recently relaunched the tool. One feature of the updated program is its ability to be used on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. The purpose of the program is to carry out common technical calculations for refrigeration and air-conditioning, and heating and plumbing applications, whilst working on site.
Calculating insulation thicknesses
Correct insulation thickness is key for achieving long-term condensation control. The ArmWin programme calculates the insulation thicknesses required to protect building equipment and industrial installations against heat losses, freezing or condensation.
In order to calculate the insulation thickness, it is essental to define the line and ambient temperatures, the relative humidity, thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient values of both the insulation and the system to be insulated (pipework, ductwork or cylindrical vessels). The ArmWin tool has been developed according to the ISO 12241 standard. This standard defines the rules for the calculation of heat-transfer-related properties of building equipment and industrial installations, predominantly under steady-state conditions.
Multi-functional use
ArmWin can be used to determine: surface temperature, heat flow, temperature changes in both flowing and stationary media, particular freezing times for water pipes and, for the first time, the most economical insulation thicknesses.
The ArmWin mobile app
As part of this relaunch, Armacell has developed a mobile application which is free for users to download. Requring fewer inputs from the user than previous, the ArmWin calculation tool provides more drop-down menu options, alongside new features such as the ability to enter project data and save these calculations to as PDF files.
Additionally, ArmWin provides various interactive functions. The calculations can be mailed directly, the program links directly to the relevant product information on the Armacell website and the key calculation terms are listed in a new glossary section. The ArmWin app has been developed for iOS, BlackBerry and Android operating systems.
