Polymers workshop for hot and sour environments

World Pipelines,
Victrex and Smithers Rapra are to co-host an online workshop to evaluate the standard test methods for assessing high-performance polymers (and in particular, polyaryletherketones) in hot and sour oil and gas environments.
Dr Geoff Small, Energy Market Technology Manager at Victrex, will be joined by Dr Alexandra Torgersen, Consultant at Alexandra Torgersen Engineering, to present various data generated on Victrex PEEK 450G™ polymer.
NORSOK and ISO ‘compliance’ are frequently referred to by suppliers of polymer materials and semi-finished goods for the oil and gas industry. Small and Torgesen will demonstrate current best practice for an assessment of lifetime in service and will also cover the potential errors that arise when using certain mechanical properties and/or data from short term testing. They will also discuss how test procedures are open to some interpretation and outline how different interpretations of NORSOK M710 and ISO test protocols can lead to inconsistent and sometimes misleading conclusions.
During the 45 min. presentation the experts will cover a number of key factors, including how short-term data can lead to overly optimistic estimates of lifetime; NORSOK M710 test protocol: whether modulus is a useful parameter; what to look out for to ensure a ‘safe usage window’; and assessing long-term performance.
Following the presentation there will be a 15 min. Q+A session during which participants can raise relevant issues and draw on the speakers’ expertise.
