New Showa 240 gloves protect hands from arc flash burns and cuts

The new Showa 240 glove, has been added to the range of hand protection solutions by Globus, a British company and leader in protecting hands. Made with flame-resistant materials to provide high performing protection against arc flash burns, flames and cuts, the glove is particularly suitable for maintenance and electrical workers, as well as resistance welding within manufacturing.

With 434 serious incidents in 2013 - 2014 including eight deaths, electrical safety is one of the most overlooked occupational hazards, having been provisionally reported in Great Britain under the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002. The provisional statistics also show a further 11 254 other incidents had also been reported.

The potential risk from an electrical arc flash is always present for those who carry out electrical maintenance or work with electrical equipment, including those within the oil and gas industry. Severe burns from heat and molten metal often result in serious injury.

Providing workers with the right equipment

When you consider the severity of any incident this can be very costly in terms of employee injury and cost to the business. It’s far better to provide workers with the right equipment and training before they start the job. The Showa 240 glove will provide protection when turning switches on or off and when working around electrical equipment. Flame resistant personal protective equipment should also be worn for complete protection.

In addition to arc flash protection, flame resistance and cut protection, the glove is comfortable and flexible, anatomically engineered with a seamless composite yarn knit liner containing Kevlar engineered fibre to provide lasting comfort and high levels of cut protection. The glove also allows good grip in challenging handling environments with a durable and soft sponge Neoprene palm coating. The Showa 240’s materials are inherently flame resistant.
