World Pipelines,
The National Energy Board (NEB) is responding to a release of crude oil at the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. Regina Terminal pump station. The company estimates that approximately 1350 bbls of crude oil was released from the pump station, which is located in the industrial section of the City of Regina.
The pump station and pipeline was immediately shut in and cleanup operations are underway. The release is contained within the company’s Regina Terminal retention pond. There were no injuries, no fire, no nearby residences and no threat to public safety. NEB staff have been deployed to monitor and assess the company’s response.
In an emergency, the Board works with federal, provincial and territorial partners to coordinate the regulatory response. The NEB’s priority in any emergency is to make sure that people are safe and the environment is protected.
The NEB holds regulated companies fully responsible and accountable for responding in a manner that protects the public, property and the environment. This includes cleanup and site remediation. The Board’s long-term goal with any incident is the full restoration and re-vegetation of the site including any potential effects on sub-surface groundwater.
