CSA Group – a leading global provider of standards development, testing and certification services – announced that Taiwan Kaohsiung Economy Development Bureau referenced CSA Group's standard on oil and gas pipeline systems (CSA Z662) in its new Kaohsiung City Pipeline Management Standard.
The standard adopted international safety guidelines to regulate the operation of urban underground pipeline systems, to help manage the safety and security of pipeline systems in Kaohsiung.
Experience of developing standards
CSA Group has almost 50 years of experience developing standards for the oil and Gas industry. As part of the CSA GROUP standards development process, expert technical committees update standards at minimum every five years. This is the seventh edition of CSA Z662, Canada's primary standard for conditions typically encountered in a wide array of environments that make up the oil and gas industry. The new version has added and expanded sections that focus on loss management systems, integrity management programmes and engineering assessment processes.
In Canada, a thorough understanding of the requirements of CSA Z662 is an important element in the safe design, construction and maintenance of pipeline systems throughout the country. CSA Z662 is referenced in legislation by provinces, territories and the federal government making it a critical component for industry professionals to understand and apply this standard to help improve safety, reduce risk and boost productivity in the field. The 2015 edition includes expert commentary directly in the standard document, making it a comprehensive resource when working on pipeline projects.
Understanding the requirements
With the announcement by Taiwan Kaohsiung Economy Development Bureau, all pipeline operators in Kaohsiung must comply with the new standard. The CSA Group Taiwan Office is inviting all pipeline operators to a dedicated symposium, offering the opportunity for anyone involved in the construction and maintenance of pipeline systems to interact with local CSA Group experts who will assist them in understanding the requirements of CSA Z662.
CSA Group will introduce its decades of experience in the development of pipeline management standards and provide certification services to local pipeline operators in Kaohsiung and throughout Taiwan. Through early engagement in pipeline components' design and certification, CSA Group offers one-stop technical guidance to help improve the overall pipeline system safety and security, and assist in eliminating or reducing the risks of potential incidents.
