Texas investigates Energy Transfer pipeline blast

State officials are still looking into what caused the explosion on Sunday night of a South Texas gas pipeline owned by Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners.

An inspector with the Texas Railroad Commission arrived at the scene near Cuero last night to investigate, an agency spokeswoman said. Details on what might have caused the explosion have not been released.

The pipeline exploded in a rural area of Texas around 8 pm, setting off a blaze. No injuries of property damage were reported, but some nearby residents were temporarily evacuated from their homes.

Pipeline details

An Energy Transfer spokeswoman described the pipeline as more than 3 ft in diameter, used to transport natural gas from wells in the booming Eagle Ford shale formation to a processing station in Jackson County, about 50 miles away.

The gas is being rerouted through another pipeline.

The Energy Transfer Partners pipeline ruptured near Lindenau, DeWitt County, on Sunday night causing a huge blaze, which could be seen from 20 miles away.

Vicki Anderson Granado, a spokeswoman for Texas-based Energy Transger Partners, said an investigation will be carried out into the cause of the rupture.Lindenau is around 85 miles (136 km) from San Antonio.
