In the recent Pipeline Industry Guild (PIG) awards ceremony, held in London on 29 June 2016, DNV GL won the ‘Land based/Onshore pipeline’ category.

The award was given to recognise the evolution of epoxy technology for a pipeline reinforcement project under a strategic new trunk road in the UK. DNV GL’s entry demonstrated use of the technique, from its original conception in the early 1980s through to the present day. The organisation has also exhibited how it has been utilised to provide an innovative solution that reinforces a critical, high pressure gas pipeline, without interrupting the gas flow.

Accepting the award on behalf of DNV GL, Anthony Wood, Senior Consultant at the company, said: “Epoxy pipeline technology was originally developed to provide repairs to pipeline defects. It has demonstrated its versatility by being adapted for use in this project. With the economic necessity of maintaining production and reducing risk even more prevalent in the oil and gas industry, the use of epoxy technology in this way will become increasingly important in the future.”

DNV GL also sponsored a new award inspired by DNV-OS-F101, the offshore standard for submarine pipeline systems, which was first issued in 1976. DNV GL has created a series of internationally recognised standards, service specifications and recommended practices with the pipeline industry. This new award, to commemorate 40 years since the first edition, recognised the best idea for increasing efficiency and reducing costs in the offshore pipeline industry. It was presented by Asle Venås, DNV GL’s Global Director of Pipelines, to the CEO of Magma Global who won the award for their high performance thermoplastic composite m-pipe.

Hari Vamadevan, DNV GL’s Regional Manager UK and West Africa, said: “We have been staunch supporters of the Pipeline Industries Guild for a number of years and served on numerous committees, benefitting from the close contact with other companies and pipeline professionals. We thought it was appropriate, to celebrate the 40th year of the standard by presenting an award.”
