Intertek provides pipeline inspection services for NGP

Intertek, a leading total quality assurance provider to industries worldwide, has been selected to provide third-party inspection services to support the procurement of Jemena’s Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) project.

Jemena, an energy infrastructure company with a proven track record in developing and operating major Australian energy supply assets, was chosen by the Northern Territory Government to build and operate the North East Gas Interconnector, now known as the NGP.

The 623 km planned pipeline will connect Northern Australia’s vast gas fields to the east coast gas market, running from Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to Mount Isa in Queensland at a cost of around AUS$800 million. Intertek will provide critical expertise at the point of fabrication, deploying a team of quality inspectors to oversee manufacture of the pipework including quality of welding, steel composition, compliance with Australian standards and adherence to engineering specifications.

The NGP project will help secure energy resources for the population on the eastern seaboard, opening up untapped resources in Northern Australia and unlocking the next phase of economic growth for the Northern Territory.
