Gazprom signs agreement for Sci-Tech Cooperation Programs

Gazprom has signed agreements for a number of Sci-Tech Cooperation Programs from 2015 to 2020 with major Russian pipe manufacturers, including the United Metallurgical Company, Severstal, the Pipe Metallurgical Company and the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant.

The Programs will contribute to the increased construction and operational efficiency of gas production, transmission and processing facilities equipped in accordance with the latest requirements. As part of the agreements, pipe manufacturers will expand their product range and raise their marketability.

The Programs also provide for the pilot manufacturing of pipes with higher resistance to cold weather, heat insulated pipes and highly tight-threaded pipes, as well as those intended for offshore gas production and operation in a hostile environment. Onshore gas pipelines will be constructed using high-strength large diameter pipes – up to K90 (X120) (K65 (X80) pipes are used now), which are fit for operation under very high pressure. Such pipes will allow for the reduction of steel consumption for future gas pipelines, as well the cutting down of costs of long-distance gas transmission due to a smaller number of compressor stations.

The new solutions will be needed, primarily in development operations on the Yamal Peninsula, Eastern Siberia and the Far East. While running the Programs, Gazprom will provide organisational and consultancy support, and the pipe manufacturers will set up the corresponding innovative R&D and engineering activities.
