Tata Steel wins pipe contract for North Sea project

Tata Steel has secured a contract to provide high frequency induction (HFI) line pipe for an oil and gas project north-east of Shetland in the UK North Sea. The company will manufacture more than 10 km of HFI line pipe from its 20 in. mill in Hartlepool for ‘sleeve pipe application’ – housing smaller, critical pipelines – as part of a bundle system for the project.
The scope of work involves five different wall thicknesses and five different diameters and the contract duration is 28 weeks.
Tata Steel has supplied more than one million t of pipeline for oil and gas projects in the North Sea over 24 years – including in excess of 500 000 m of reel installed pipe and more than £250 million invested in subcontracts for North Sea projects.

“The stringent dimensional controls offered by our HFI process provides superior shape and 'weldability' for faster offshore welding, and our supply chain control ensures we can comply with even the tightest project schedules.”
