Spectra Energy plans to expand its gas pipeline system
It has recently been announced that Spectra Energy plans to add 600 000 Dth/day of capacity, and 35 miles of new natural gas pipeline, to its Texas Eastern system in Louisiana.
In order to serve the rising industrial demand for gas in the area, the SOLA project will take gas from supply basins in the Gulf of Mexico and Texas to Louisiana. The open season, which started on 26th August, will end on the 27th of September.
The construction, which will consist of approximately 35 miles of pipeline, is set to connect Texas Eastern’s 36 in. dia. pipeline, in Assumption Parish, to interconnections with multiple sites in Louisiana’s Assumption, Ascension, St. James parishes, as well as a new compressor station.
9200 miles of natural gas pipelines
The Texas Eastern system, which is 9200 miles long, runs from the Texas Gulf Coast to the Northeast US, where it connects with Spectra’s Algonquin Gas Transmission system.
The company has said: “Diverse supply access greatly enhances reliability while meeting the growing south Louisiana industrial demand for natural gas”.
