BC approves TransCanada pipeline project

According to The Canadian Press, the provincial government of British Columbia (BC) has approved a proposed expansion of one of TransCanada’s natural gas pipelines in the region.
Located in northeast BC, TransCanada’s Towerbirch expansion project has been issued an environmental assessment certificate by the province. The line carries natural gas and stretches 87 km from near Dawson Creek into northern Alberta.
BC’s government’s approval is subject to 17 conditions, which include the creation of a heritage management plan and TransCanada’s participation in efforts to monitor and assess the effects of the project. According to Energetic City, these conditions are in addition to the 24 conditions that has previously been recommended by the National Energy Board regarding this expansion project.
News sources have reported that the expansion will increase the capacity of pipelines in order to handle the increased growth of production.
The federal government is scheduled to consider the recommendations and make a decision on the pipeline project by 6 April.
