Alexey Miller and Ambassador of Poland address current issues

World Pipelines,

The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Russian Federation.

The parties addressed the key issues of bilateral cooperation in the gas sector. In particular, they discussed Russian natural gas supplies to Poland as well as its transit via the Polish section of the Yamal – Europe gas pipeline. It was pointed out that Poland was the largest consumer of Russian natural gas in Central Europe and an important transit route to consumers in Western Europe.

In addition, the meeting touched on the start of the autumn/winter period in Russia. It was pointed out that in the middle of October the settled weather almost across the whole European part of Russia was much colder than usual, which resulted in record-breaking gas supplies to Russian consumers via the Unified Gas Supply System.

Background

In 2013 Gazprom supplied Poland with 9.8 billion m3 of natural gas. The contract on Russian gas supplies to Poland and the contract on Russian gas transit via Poland are effective until 2022 and 2019 respectively.

The Yamal – Europe gas pipeline with the total length exceeding 2000 km and the annual design capacity of 32.9 billion m3 of gas secures Russian natural gas supplies via Belarus and Poland to Germany. The Polish section of the gas pipeline is owned by EuRoPol Gaz – joint venture of Gazprom, Polish national company PGNiG and Polish joint stock company Gas-Trading.
