Opito has recently announced the opening of nominations for its 2015 Safety and Competency Awards. The purpose of the awards is to recognise employers and training providers that are working to achieve the highest safety standards within the oil and gas industry, through Opito standards.

The accolades will be presented at the Opito Safety and Competency Conference (OSCC) on 3 November 2015 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

Any oil and gas company that is able to demonstrate how it has improved safety and is delivering a competent workforce is able to enter the OSCC Employers Award. Companies will be judged on how they have effectively adopted Opito standards, the number of staff trained, geographical location and examples of how the standards have shown a tangible improvement in safety and competence.

The Approved Training Providers Award will be awarded to the training provider that has demonstrated its commitment to developing the skills of its staff to deliver Opito training. Organisations are assessed by standards used in the development programme, the number of staff involved, structure and timeframe of the development programme and examples of innovation in learning and development.

Oil and gas companies reaching the highest standards

Opito Group’s Chief Executive Officer, David Doig, said: “Year on year we see organisations reaching the highest standards in safety across the oil and gas industry and the OSCC Awards is our way of recognising and rewarding their ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and competent workforce.”

“We may be experiencing some challenging economic times, as companies start to feel the pinch of the low oil price and evaluate their options for reducing costs, however it’s vital that we continue to maintain this momentum and not make any compromises when it comes to skills,” he added.
