Serimax to provide pipeline welding solutions for Petrobras’ Ubarana offshore field

World Pipelines,

Vallourec’s full service welding subsidiary Serimax has been commissioned by Technip to provide welding solutions in the Ubarana - Unidade de Gasolina de Guamaré (UGG) in Rio Grande do Norte project, operated by Brazilian oil giant Petrobras, off the coast of Fortaleza in northwest Brazil. Technip is in charge of the laying of the linepipes. A part of these pipes have been delivered by Serimax’s mother company Vallourec, from its Brazilian mill, located in Barreiro Belo Horizonte.

Serimax is providing welding services to Technip's DLB Iroquois barge with four Saturnax welding stations, and maintenance and production members onboard. The company’s scope of order comprises the welding of 39.5 km of pipeline in two shallow-water fields, with 19 km of internally coated 12 in. pipe currently being laid in the Ubarana field and 19 km of 20 in. pipe in the UGG field.

Mickael Dolou, Serimax’s Regional Manager for South America, said: “This project cements our position in Brazil by strengthening the development of the shallow-water component and we are proud to bring our know-how to this project. Our teams onboard Technip’s laying barge are experienced to operate in the most challenging conditions. They will ensure the best service to our client.”

Vallourec’s 60 year presence in Brazil and expertise in premium solutions for offshore applications have sealed a successful business relationship to the operating company Petrobras, on which other Group entities can build to bring in their expertise. The Serimax involvement in the Ubarana - UGG project demonstrates as well the potential synergies of Vallourec’s manifold solutions for challenging oil and gas projects.
