New recruit at Michels

Trenchless construction veteran Brenden Tippets has joined Michels Corporation as Microtunneling Manager.

Tippets has more than 20 years of experience in wide-ranging aspects of heavy civil construction, including significant experience in microtunneling, tunneling and pipejacking. His specific areas of expertise include design-build trenchless projects, extensive contaminated ground water remediation, and construction in deep and difficult soil conditions in dense urban settings.

As Microtunneling Manager, Tippets will guide the continued growth of microtunneling among Michels’ repertoire of trenchless construction services.“Michels is a recognized leader in underground utility construction, including significant successes in microtunneling,” said Jim Stevens, Michels Tunneling Vice President. “Combining Brenden’s experience with Michels’ reputation for excellence creates an exciting opportunity to provide our customers with additional options for safe, reliable tunnels.”

Tippets shares his expertise and experience with others in the trenchless industry through his abundant volunteer commitments. He is currently a member of the North American Microtunneling Association (NAMA) Board of Directors; committee member and session leader for the North American Society of Trenchless Technology (NASTT); and committee member for the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association. Additionally, Tippets spent several years on the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Standard Design and Construction Guidelines for Microtunneling (ASCE/CI 36-15) Committee and is currently working on the AREMA microtunneling guidelines, which are planned for publication in early 2017.

Michels Tunneling uses a variety of techniques to complete challenging tunnels in all locations and soil conditions for pipelines, water mains, and storm and sanitary sewers. The team has worked in dense urban settings, under waterways, highways, and environmentally sensitive areas, in the largest cities and in the most remote regions.
