PEGL secures awards

The highly-regarded Queen’s Award for International Trade has been secured by President Engineering Group Ltd, a manufacturer of specialist products to the industrial gas and energy industries worldwide.

Sheffield-based PEGL is one of only 105 firms in the UK to achieve this prestigious accolade, which is due to its outstanding overseas sales growth over the last three years.

Established in 2010, President Engineering Group Ltd generates 88% of its turnover from export. The company is made up of three business units: Bestobell which manufactures valves for the industrial, marine and liquefied natural gas industries; Conflow, produces safety equipment for the mining industry and Bretby Gammatech, which designs and produces monitoring equipment for mining.

Mark Henley, Managing Director at President Engineering Group Ltd, said: “These are the awards that every company wants to secure, as they are recognised across the world. It is a tremendous honour to be selected to receive a Queen’s Award and it is testament to the dedication, expertise and professionalism of our whole team.

He added: “With our export business continuing to grow, we are entering a very exciting era and it is fantastic that we have been able to achieve this accolade in our fifth year.”

PEGL’s top five overseas markets reflect its global reach with China seen as an important market for all three companies within the group, while in addition, Conflow Inc. focuses on the potential of the US market and Bestobell sees growth in South Korea. PEGL is predicting continued growth in its core markets of China, USA and South Korea along with expansion into other countries across Europe, including Norway and Germany.

The company’s ongoing export growth is a result of establishing a clear, co-ordinated business strategy covering its three operating companies which has been key to its international success. This strategy is based on researching growth markets, attending overseas exhibitions and establishing relationships with experienced sales agents in each market. PEGL then supports these businesses with technical expertise and by developing bespoke solutions for their customers, based on its manufacturing excellence and expertise in its market sectors.

At the same time as growing its exports, the company has increased its manufacturing capability here in the UK, whilst investing in new equipment and technology and has increased its staffing levels by 21% in the past three years.

Achieving the prestigious Queens Awards for International Trade follows on from PEGL winning the ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ title in the national finals of the British Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Chamber Awards 2014.
