World Pipelines,
Following completion of the line 6B pipeline replacement between Griffith, Indiana, and Stockbridge, Michigan, Enbridge Inc. is set to begin mobilising crews to carry out restoration work along the pipeline right-of-way. Cleanup and restoration of private property along the pipeline right-of-way is expected to last throughout the summer.
Enbridge recently replaced 285 miles of the line 6B pipeline, which burst underground nearly four years ago and caused a spill of 1 million gallons of oilsands oil into Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River. The US$ 1.6 billion project involved the replacement of the older pipe with a new 36 in. dia. pipe, which has a capacity of 500 000 bbls/d.
“Restoration work had not yet started due to delays in construction and winter weather constraints,” Enbridge said in a statement. “Complicating matters, road weight restrictions were kept in place longer than expected due to the long, harsh winter and topsoil piles were still partially frozen.”
“With milder weather in place and road weight restrictions now lifted in most counties, Enbridge will spread multiple restoration crews out along the right-of-way to work in a continual linear fashion, allowing the work to be completed as efficiently as possible while providing a finished product,” the statement continued. This will include one restoration crew that will begin in Griffith and move east.
