Milestones reached in Nigeria
Nestoil PLC has announced the successful completion of several key milestones in its NCTL project for SPDC. Part of the scope of work of the NCTL Project are lay and weld of the pipeline and pulling of the major river crossings. These two activities are key milestones in the execution of the project.
Lay and weld of the pipeline is in two segments; there is the 3.5 km x 12 in. segment and the 44 km x 24 in. main pipeline segment. By design, the 44 km x 24 in. main pipeline segment was made up of 35 strings (i.e., strings 1-35) of various lengths, which were welded and pushed from a well equipped laybarge with a dedicated and skilled crew. Lay and weld of the 24 in. main pipeline segment was safely and successfully achieved as per required quality standard on 23 April 2010, with the completion of welding of string 32; with a length of about 1450 m (1.45 km).
The 44km x 24 in. main pipeline segment traverses six major rivers and about 44 other minor rivers and creeks. The six major rivers are: St Nicholas, Odeama, Twoni, Tora, Santa Barbara and Sego, and range from a width of about 220 m (shortest) to about 1010 m (longest). The pulling of all six major rivers was executed with a well equipped pulling barge manned by an experienced team, and was safely and successfully completed on 1 June 2010 with the successful pulling of the longest river i.e., Sego River with a width of about 1010 m.
With this achievement, Nestoil has once again proven that it is an oil service company of international class and is therefore well positioned to make an indelible mark on the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
