SemCAMS, a subsidiary of SemGroup® Corporation, has announced that it began service of its KA North pipeline on 13 June 2014. The low sour gas gathering line extends SemCAMS’ capture area into the Duvernay region from 7-14-63-20 W5M to the KA plant. The pipeline is currently tied into an existing inlet separator at the KA plant. Construction of a new inlet separator is expected to be completed and in service in Q2 2015.

The KA North pipeline is underpinned by a fee-for-service natural gas gathering and processing agreement with Shell Canada. SemCAMS owns 60% of the KA North pipeline. The pipeline consists of a 10 mile, 10 inch sour gas gathering pipeline with 125 million ft3/d of capacity. SemCAMS will operate the pipeline, which will be available to serve other customers in the area. Currently, the pipeline has approximately 100 ft3/d of available capacity.

The KA plant is located in the heart of the Duvernay region, where producers are actively drilling for liquids-rich gas. By extending its reach targeting the Duvernay formation in the Kaybob area, SemCAMS plans to attract incremental volumes to the KA plant where there is available processing capacity and an additional 11000 bbls/d of condensate stabilisation capacity that could be restarted.

"We are excited to be extending our Duvernay region capture area and increasing our hydrocarbon liquids handling capacity at the KA gas plant to meet our customers’ needs. The KA North pipeline and inlet separator projects are consistent with our commitment to enhancing our infrastructure to provide competitive liquids-rich gas processing options in the Duvernay area," said Dave Gosse, SemCAMS’ Vice President of Operations.
