As hydrogen adoption gathers pace, a Nottingham (UK) based manufacturer has been honoured for the role its technology is playing in shaping the future of the hydrogen economy both in the UK and worldwide.
Luxfer Gas Cylinders is the national winner of the Make UK Innovation Award, marking the company’s third major industry recognition in recent months. During the Make UK National Awards ceremony, which was held in London on 30 January 2025, Luxfer was recognised for its pioneering work in hydrogen storage and transportation.
This success has been driven by a significant investment in research and development across its teams in the UK and North America. The launch of its G-Stor® Hydrosphere technology marks a significant milestone in making sustainable energy more accessible and practical. The G-Stor Hydrosphere is manufactured at a new purpose-built production facility in Colwick, Nottingham.
Mark Lawday, Vice President and General Manager of Luxfer Gas Cylinders, the world’s largest manufacturer of high-pressure composite and aluminium cylinders, commented: “For hydrogen’s full potential to be realised, a robust infrastructure is essential. At Luxfer, we are at the forefront of safe and efficient hydrogen storage solutions. Our solutions are bridging the gap between hydrogen producers, transport and storage suppliers, and end users, ensuring seamless connectivity across the supply chain.
“Winning the Make UK Innovation Award at a national level is a fantastic achievement for our skilled, talented and dedicated team. This recognition reinforces the fact that our technology is making an impact and helping shape the future of hydrogen mobility and storage. With innovation at the heart of what we do, we remain committed to driving further advancements to accelerate the global transition to clean energy.”
The Make UK Awards, organised by the body that represents the manufacturing industry across the UK, celebrate the best of British manufacturing. This latest accolade follows the company’s triumph at The Manufacturer MX Awards, where it was honoured with the national Product Innovation & Design Award, as well as its regional Make UK Midlands Innovation Award win late last year.
Luxfer Gas Cylinders has been operating for over 80 years and has sites across the globe. With over 70 million Luxfer cylinders in use worldwide, the company continues to set industry standards in alternative fuels, aerospace, life support, and more. This latest recognition further cements the company’s reputation as a leader in hydrogen technology and innovation.
