2022 Kenyan oil production

Japan’s Toyota Tsusho has released its design for the 1500 km Uganda-Kenya crude oil pipeline, for which they contractually own. The company has set a start-up date of October 2022 for oil flow in the pipeline after the final commissioning in 2020, when Tullow Oil states they will begin producing oil in Kenya.

“Kenya and Uganda have now settled on the route, for the oil pipeline, this is what was delaying construction and could stretch the deadlines set by both governments for first oil,” said Daniel Kiptoo, the Petroleum Legal Adviser to the Cabinet Secretary in Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

Kenya intends to be producing oil by 2017; the decision was set to be made in early June but it was delayed till August.

However, the financial aspects of the pipeline have yet to be agreed upon, which could affect the construction time.

Ugandan oil investors – Tullow Oil, Total and China National Offshore Oil Corporation – together with Kenya’s Tullow Oil and Africa Oil, shall make a joint decision by October 2017.
