Phillips 66 is proposing to build a new oil pipeline across the Yellowstone River in Montana
Phillips 66, a growing energy manufacturing and logistics company, is proposing to build a new oil pipeline across the Yellowstone River in Montana.
The company will know whether or not the State Land Board will grant a construction permit by 15th July, following a vote.
According to a survey carried out by the State in 2011, the existing Phillips 66 line in the area was only covered by 2 - 6 ft of riverbed. The company wants to construct a new line that would run 40 ft underneath the water to prevent the line from breaking.
The Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation has recommended that Phillips 66 remove the old pipeline as part of the project.
However, Phillips 66 disagrees with this recommendation.
NGL pipelines
Late last month, DCP Midstream, Phillips 66 and Spectra Energy announced that the Sand Hills and Southern Hills natural gas liquids pipelines are in service. DCP Midstream, Phillips 66 and Spectra Energy each own a one third interest in the pipeline entities.
- The 720 mile Sand Hills NGL Pipeline is transporting NGLs from production in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale.
- The 800 mile Southern Hills NGL Pipeline is transporting NGLs from production in the Midcontinent.
“Sand Hills and Southern Hills provide a solution to the critical need for vital transportation capacity from key liquids producing regions,” said Wouter van Kempen, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of DCP Midstream.
The Sand Hills and Southern Hills NGL pipelines began taking flows in the Q4, 2012 and Q1, 2013, respectively, and are on budget and ahead of schedule.
