Kiewit Midstream acquires Southwest Energy

World Pipelines,

Kiewit Midstream LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, has acquired Houston-based Southwest Energy, LP. Founded in 2002, Southwest Energy is a natural gas marketing and logistics company specialising in supply aggregation, sales and logistical delivery, primarily in the Gulf Coast, Midwest and East Coast.

Offering a wide variety of regional and national expertise to both producers and consumers – which include industrial, local distribution companies and power plants – Southwest Energy provides flexible and comprehensive solutions to its business partners.

“Southwest Energy looks forward to bringing its resources and capabilities to Kiewit Midstream as part of an integrated, client-focused and full-service midstream business,” said Craig Elias, President of Southwest Energy. “This acquisition combines very complementary strengths that will help both companies grow with the development of numerous shale opportunities in North America. We’re excited to be part of the Kiewit organisation, which has a strong reputation, extensive experience and a long list of outstanding construction accomplishments.”

Kiewit Midstream, also based in Houston, was formed in 2013 to meet the growing demand for new facilities and infrastructure to safely and efficiently move natural gas and oil to the market.

“The booming shale play and lack of infrastructure to move product to market — whether gas or crude oil — led to the founding of Kiewit Midstream,” said Rick Lanoha, president of Kiewit Energy Group Inc. “Kiewit Midstream helps fill gaps in the oil and gas supply chain resulting from ageing pipelines and pump stations, over-the-road traffic congestion, and major directional and volume shifts in natural gas movement.”

Southwest Energy will maintain its brand, employees and separate office locations, while working with Kiewit Midstream to offer a full suite of midstream services. “Southwest has in-depth knowledge of existing pipeline systems and firsthand relationships with producers and customers,” said Lanoha. “Combining this know-how and experience with Kiewit’s expertise and long track record of construction and engineering excellence helps us offer comprehensive midstream solutions to clients. We’re optimistic about the future of this business.”
