Shell set to award contracts for Iraq oilfield
Shell, along with its Iraqi state partner, is in the process of awarding a new deal to drill oil wells at the giant Majnoon field in southern Iraq.
Shell is also set to award an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal to build various installations at the field, according to an Iraqi source.
It has been reported by the Iraqi oil industry that Halliburton, Weatherford International and Petrofac are amongst those companies that have been invited to submit bids for tender.
Shell and Petronas, the Malaysian state-run major, were awarded a contract to develop the Majnoon field last December. Shell owns 45%, Petronas 30% and Iraq’s state-run Missan Oil holds 25%.
Last week the Iraqi cabinet agreed a US$ 12.5 billion deal with Shell and Mitsubishi to develop a gas-structure project in southern Iraq.
