STX Heavy wins US$ 449 million pipeline contract

South Korea's STX Heavy Industries has announced that it has won a construction order to build a 550 km gas pipeline at the Akkas gas field in Iraq.

The contract, worth US$ 449 million, was commissioned by Kogas Akkas BV, a project unit of Korea Gas Corporation, which is engaged in the gas field business in Iraq.

STX Heavy Industries will carry out the project on a turnkey basis ranging from engineering procurement of materials and construction. The pipeline, scheduled for completion in June 2017, will take gas from the Akkas gas field.

The Akkas gas field

The Akkas Gas Field is located in the Al-Anbar Province, 460 km northwest of Baghdad, close the Syrian border.

The gas reserve at the field is approximately 590 million barrels. Prior to this order, STX Heavy Industries won a US$ 39.3 million desulfurization plant order from the Iraq Khabat region.
