Energy transportation giant Enbridge announces Cdn$ 600 million expansion plans
Enbridge has announced it is set to invest around Cdn$ 600 million (£374 million) to expand its American and Canadian oil pipeline system.
The planned expansion between Hardisty, Alberta and the US border, will cost the Canadian energy transporter approximately Cdn$ 400 million (£249 million), and is expected to increase capacity by 230 000 bpd.
There are also plans to expand the Lakehead System pipeline between North Dakota and Wisconsin, which is operated by the company’s US affiliate, Enbridge Energy Partners. This expansion is expected to add an additional 230 000 bpd of capacity, costing around Cdn$ 200 million (£125 million).
Both expansions are expected to be completed in 2015. Enbridge transports and distributes energy across North America. The company transport 65%
of western Canadian crude oil exports and satisfies 13% of the US's daily crude oil imports.
