Engineers, scientists, and solutions providers congregated in New Orleans to attend the Pipeline Simulation Interest Group’s 46th Annual Meeting held from the 12 - 15 May this year.
Prior to the Annual Meeting, PSIG conducted a Pipeline Simulation short course from the 11 – 12 of May, with tutorials by Dr. Jon Barley, Dr. Jason Modisette, Dr. Ivor Ellul and Ed Nicholas, including material on fluid properties, pipeline flow equations, multiphase flow, and real time systems and leak detection.
The conference held parallel symposiums, one on leak detection and one on compressor modelling/pipeline analysis, and a general session that included papers related to pipeline simulation.
In addition, solution providers gave successful presentations in the technology showcase session.
This year PSIG awarded two scholarships, the Orin Flanigan Scholarship, awarded to Francesco Galleni (Imperial College, London) for his work on ‘One Dimensional Modeling of Vertical Intermittent Flow’; and the Don Schroeder Scholarship, awarded to Sara Baltazar (Universidade de Trás–os–Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD)) for her work on ‘Failure Detection, Control and Optimization in Gas Network Systems’. The 2014 Best Paper Award was won by Dr. Ivor Ellul for his paper titled ‘The Piper Alpha Disaster – A Forensic Pipeline Simulation Study’.
Around 160 professionals from seventeen different countries across the globe attended PSIG this year.
