Applus RTD, the global leader in the provision of integrity technology services, will demonstrate the innovative technologies in its non-destructive testing (NDT) range at the Rocky Mountain Energy Summit in Denver, Colorado from 4 - 7 August.

The technologies include Applus RTD’s latest augmented reality system in conjunction with the RTD IWEX (Inverse Wave Field Extrapolation), RTD Rayscan, as well as the RTD INCOTEST (INsulated COmponent TESTing) - methods used to deliver technical assurance and improve integrity management.

Driven forward by an innovative research and development program, the augmented reality application has been integrated into the RTD IWEX system which allows detailed inspection and mapping of defects within critical pieces of pipework. It provides users with a 3D image of the inspected object, giving clearer insight into the scale and nature of any existing defects.

The augmented reality application therefore projects the linear IWEX generated digital image around the weld using only a tablet device. The position of defects is unambiguously indicated on the pipe, allowing the operator to detect, locate and mark the defect.

Rienk de Vries, technical director at Applus RTD, said: “Improving safety within the industry is a key focus for us and it is becoming more and more crucial for operators to protect their assets. Applus RTD is therefore committed to research and development programs in order to create new and improved technologies to meet this requirement.

“We will be demonstrating some of these technologies over the next few days at the Rocky Mountain Energy Summit, and highlighting the importance of safeguarding assets within the industry, as well as protecting the environment that we operate in.”

Applus RTD will also be demonstrating the RTD Rayscan, a real-time digital radiographic inspection system used to inspect girth welds. The environmentally friendly and cost-efficient system has a double wall single image (DWSI) and a single wall single image (SWSI) application that can inspect pipes with a diameter range from 2 -56 in. Its low radiation intensity and small bore frame-shielding increases the safety of the system for its user.

Demonstrations on the above technologies will take place from 4 – 7 August at the Innovator’s Circle Booth #1 inside the convention centre and at the Applus RTD Mobile Technology Center located at 14th and California St, Denver.
