Update on CLARCOR’s gas turbine filter technology

CLARCOR Industrial Air reported on the success of its revolutionary clearcurrent(R) PRO gas turbine filter technology in 2014 as it surpassed 300 installations worldwide. With new additions to the product portfolio, the popularity of CLARCOR filters continues to grow as installations today exceed 800 turbines, a 266% increase in just 18 months. The extraordinary success of these products reflects turbine operators realising the direct benefits of these filters in their turbine performance.

The clearcurrent PRO (predictable reliable output) filter technology proves that filtration efficiency isn't the only criteria that should be used to select a filter. As performance data has repeatedly shown, the clearcurrent PRO technology delivers all the benefits you’d expect from HEPA-rated filters, and more, at a fraction of the cost. clearcurrent PRO technology can be fitted into new or retrofit installations in cross-flow, up-flow and split up-flow configurations to improve operational effectiveness. It is available in the form of vCell, pocket, panel and cartridge filters with various geometries and is ideal for offshore and onshore installation. The technology reduces the amount of both wet and dry contaminants that reach the turbine blades resulting in increased power output and lower heat rate without sudden differential pressure spikes.

Paul Sennett, General Manager of Gas Turbine Filtration at CLARCOR Industrial Air, commented: “CLARCOR Industrial Air has a clear focus on and in-depth understanding of gas turbine installations. The performance operators are realising from their turbines using clearcurrent PRO filter solutions is giving them rapid return on investment – and the continued increase in number of sites installed shows how clearly they understand the benefits. Our focus on the gas turbine market extends to other product lines; the BP Nanopleat filter and use of PRO technology in other product lines being good examples. It is also extends to our complete approach to business and is one of the reasons that we acquired TDC Filter.”

The BP Nanopleat filter is a unique nanofiber technology that offers sustained, improved gas turbine output. It has been shown to increase the efficiency of pulse cleaning systems with improved dust holding capacity, enhanced cleanability and lower operating pressures over the filter life, giving it significant advantages over other nanofiber products in the marketplace.

The recent acquisition of an innovative manufacturer of cartridges for dust collection and gas turbine filtration has quickly extended CLARCOR Industrial Air’s already impressive operational expertise in the protection and improved performance of gas turbine installations.

CLARCOR Industrial Air works closely with major gas turbine OEMs and tailors its solutions to meet the diverse needs of each gas turbine installation. It evaluates technology based on its real-world performance and the effect it has on turbine output rather than on standard industry laboratory tests alone. Current filter test standards do not necessarily reflect how media will perform in harsh gas turbine environments. With decades of experience in developing and supplying gas turbine filters, CLARCOR has developed its own best practice test methods for evaluating filtration performance.

CLARCOR continues to closely collaborate with turbine operators and turbine manufacturers to meet filtration needs of today and into the future. Solutions are robust, offer long life to increase system availability and reduce maintenance overheads as well as achieving the right cost level. “Our focus is to increase plant profitability through predictable, reliable turbine output without large maintenance overheads,” said Sennett. “Our solutions are designed to withstand the multiple elements seen in varied and environmentally challenging installations – from deserts to offshore platforms. We will continue to develop solutions that offer real value for money by increasing turbine power output and lowering maintenance overheads."
