World Pipelines,
The successful launch of a Standardised Buoyancy Module (SBM) by Swedish engineering company Trelleborg has seen it gain industry recognition at the first Oil & Gas Engineering Product of the Year awards.
The new product was awarded Gold; Jonathan Fox, Senior Product Development Engineer with Trelleborg’s offshore operation said: “We are honoured to receive the Product of the Year Gold Award for our innovative Standardised Buoyancy Modules, which are specifically developed to reduce lead times for customers.”
The SBM is a modular redesign of the Distributed Buoyancy Module (DBM), that enables smaller elements to be stacked together, thus allowing customised uplift requirements as desired for each project. Each segment of the module is designed to mechanically lock around the clamp, which in turn attaches the assembly to the desired location on the riser. The SBM is capable of operating between the surface and depths of up to 2500 m. In addition, synthetic feet on the bottom of the module can prevent handling damage and decrease vessel installation time.
The 2017 Product of the Year awards will be presented to the winners at the 2018 Engineering Awards in Manufacturing dinner on April 16, 2018.
Using advanced polymer material technology, Trelleborg’s offshore operation specialises in the development and production of polymer and syntactic foam-based seismic, marine, buoyancy, cable protection and thermal insulation products, as well as rubber-based passive and active fire protection solutions for the offshore industry.
