Since starting business in 2002, DEKOTEC GmbH has developed numerous markets worldwide. Whether in Australia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, or in Southern Africa: 20 years of DEKOTEC stand for 100 years of quality made in Germany. DEKOTEC has been able to successfully complete around 2500 orders since then.

20 years of DEKOTEC GmbH

"I'd like to thank our international customers for their trusting cooperation over the past 20 years. Based on our mutual appreciation, DEKOTEC GmbH succeeded to develop new markets worldwide, in which we were previously not able to operate" says Luc Perrad, International Sales Director at DEKOTEC GmbH. "This is where our subsidiary demonstrates its high level of flexibility and consulting expertise: because in countries with challenging framework conditions, custom solutions are crucial."

Since its foundation, DEKOTEC GmbH has continued to expand its product portfolio: adaptability and reliability have been its keys to its success. "DEKOTEC does not just sell products; it develops solutions for improved safety," adds Luc Perrad. While initially heat shrinkable sleeves defined the product portfolio for Australian and Middle East projects, the company expanded very quickly its product range and gained customers trust with the made in Germany quality.

Same quality, different brand name

DEKOTEC GmbH is active in other sales countries than its sister companies. Behind the name DEKOTEC stands identical products in proven quality, manufactured in Germany, but with a different brand name.

With the worldwide first invention of the Petrolatum-Tape (‘Schade´s plastic protective tape’) almost 100 years ago, the mother company of DEKOTEC GmbH laid the foundation for its success. Due to trade restrictions after WWI, German products could only be marketed by granting licenses to third parties in certain export countries, including the UK, for example. There, the then business partner – on behalf and in the name of the German company – registered rights to the trademark in the country. After WWII, however, these trademark rights were then attributed to the local licensee. Since then, there have thus been two companies that use the same (word) trademark in the same industry, but are completely independent of each other. As a result, the parent company of DEKOTEC GmbH was unable to sell its well-known products under the same brand name in all countries of the world.

In the course of the growing internationalisation of its business activities, a solution was found to deal with the issue around the legal rights to the trademark of the mother company: Founding DEKOTEC GmbH (the name is the abbreviation of the first two letters of the mother company and the German words for corrosion protection technology) covering all those markets where the founding company did not have the right to use its well-known initial trademark. A challenge that DEKOTEC GmbH, as a relatively young company, has mastered very successfully in just 20 years; today, it delivers to 45 countries worldwide. The fact that the internationally increased requirements for environmental protection and occupational safety play a central role is part of the self-image.

"Over the last two decades, DEKOTEC GmbH has succeeded very well in adapting to the existing challenges in different countries and in convincing customers with the broadest portfolio available on the market," says Max Wedekind, Managing Director of the company group in Germany. "For DEKOTEC, it will continue to be important to develop individual solutions for broad application areas. In addition to new construction and rehabilitation oil and gas pipelines, water supply and wind energy are gaining strong in importance.”
