Saipem has been included, for the third consecutive year, in the World and Europe equity indices of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, as a leader in the Energy Equipment Services industrial sector.

For over 20 years, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, based on a selection carried out by the rating agency RobecoSAM, has classified the companies that stand out in each sector through a complex assessment process that involves analysis of the suitability of the business system and of compliance with stringent economic, ethical, social, environmental and governance criteria.

In addition to highlighting the best practices implemented by Saipem, this year's evaluation recorded a further and significant improvement in the company’s performance compared to previous years.

Stefano Cao, CEO of Saipem, commented: “Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability index is an important confirmation of the company's attention to the integration of sustainable development objectives into its strategies and the validity of its practices aimed at creating value for stakeholders, such as customers, the financial community and areas of presence. Saipem continues its commitment to pursue innovation, the promotion of human and labour rights, and careful management of the supply chain with a view to respecting the environment, health and safety. All these are the elements that characterise the company’s sustainable business model, which is then reported in a transparent manner to its stakeholders.”

Saipem is involved in the engineering, drilling and construction of major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. It is ‘One-Company’ organised in five business divisions (Offshore E&C, Onshore E&C, Offshore Drilling, Onshore Drilling and XSIGHT, dedicated to conceptual design). Saipem is a global solution provider with distinctive skills and competences and high-tech assets, which it uses to identify solutions aimed at satisfying its customers’ requirements. Listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, it is present in over 70 countries worldwide and has 32 000 employees of 120 different nationalities.

Trencher or excavator? For pipeline distribution, power, water, sewer, gas and underdrain installations, as well as other heavy-duty trenching applications, both machines can do the work, yet excavators continue to be more prevalently used. But, this seems to be largely due to tradition. In fact, many contractors will tell you that they still install product with an excavator because that’s the way they’ve always done it.
