The Trans Anatolian natural gas pipeline (TANAP) project is set to carry gas from the Shah Deniz II field to the Caspian regions and Europe.
Recently, Kurdistan has shown interest in constructing a new pipeline to export their natural gas. At present, Kurdistan’s proposal is the closest geographical pipeline to TANAP. The line would also be able to transport 31 billion m3/y of natural gas.
Additionally, there would be no third transit country in between linking Kurdish gas to TANAP; the Kurdistan region is approximately 570 km from TANAP’s closest station. Thus, the natural gas could be delivered directly to TANAP without tariffs.
As a result, Kurdistan’s natural gas supply could be considered an efficient, cost-effective and safe source for the TANAP project.
