A natural gas pipeline, owned by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) and Nigerian Agip Oil Company, has recently exploded. Investigations in the explosion are currently ongoing.

No cause of the blast has been determined as of present. However, one potential reason may have been due to the pipelines’ high pressure.

The two companies have denied any casualties, with Kudo Eresia-Ete, NLNG External Affairs Manager, stating: “No injuries or fatalities have been reported […] Emergency response procedures were immediately activated and the relevant authorities have been notified.”

Evekwu leader, Chris Idika, disputed this as he declared: “We have lost three people to death."

The explosion has also caused damage to farmlands and crops.
