The extreme side of TurkStream

TurkStream is characterised by its significant water depths and relatively large outside diameter of the pipeline. The TurkStream offshore gas pipeline has been one of the most challenging pipeline projects to date. Many technical difficulties were faced before construction, for example in terms of pipeline design, selection of the best route and for laying the pipe in an anoxic environment.

For the industry to be able to manufacture the line pipe to the project specification, a complete materials development programme was required. Together with various partners in the industry, the project company successfully pushed the limits of technology by executing a programme that was effectively the largest qualification programme in the industry’s history up to that moment.
