The Maria field lies in around 300 m of water and is located in the Norwegian Sea, approximately 200 km from mainland. It is one of the first fields that Wintershall Norge (Wintershall) is developing.
The field has been developed using subsea solutions that are tied back to various nearby facilities. Wintershall has a contract with Subsea 7 for the engineering, purchasing, fabrication and installation of the pipelines for the field, which is scheduled to come on stream in 2018.
Between 5 - 17 February, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway carried out an audit of Wintershall's management of the fabrication of the field’s pipelines. The audit also covered Subsea 7's fulfilment of its responsibility for complying with both regulatory requirements and the requirements of the operator.
While no regulatory non-conformities were detected during the audit, improvement points were identified in connection with the work description for the operator's onsite representatives for the pipeline fabrication, and with the organisation chart for the welding control function.
Wintershall has been asked to report on how these improvement points will be assessed by 27 March.
